Room thermostats

Socket room thermostats – reliably regulated feel-good temperatures

Room thermostats allow for the comfortable control of electrical heating and cooling devices for generating constant, pleasant feel-good temperatures at home, in your holiday home or in the office – without manually regulating the temperature setting at the heating or cooling device. Moreover, a socket thermostat noticeably reduces the energy consumption of the heater or air conditioner connected, as the consumer is switched off automatically and without residual current consumption as soon as target temperature has been reached. In the following you'll learn everything that is to know about the functionality and selection of the room thermostat that suits your needs.

DIGITAL ROOM THERMOSTATS FOR MOBILE HEATING DEVICES AND AIR CONDITIONERS

A digital socket thermostat or radio thermostat with its function for automatically switching the heating device or air conditioner connected on and off if the room temperature measured deviates from the target temperature set in thermostat, makes it possible for you to regulate the room temperature comfortably and easily. In hot summer temperatures, for instance, provide for thermostat- and time-controlled cooling by using a mobile air conditioner while saving high energy costs at the same time.

Good to know: The use of a socket thermostat is also recommendable for air conditioners with an integrated thermostat control, since the combination of both devices opens up additional possibilities for controlling the room temperature. However, it needs to be checked beforehand whether the respective air conditioner is suitable for the use with a socket thermostat. If this is the case, the switch-on and switch-off time of the air conditioner can be programmed via the room thermostat in a energy-saving fashion.

In the colder part of the year, the use of a room thermostat like for example the BN30 is advisable to control the temperature of electrical fan heaters, heating panels, infrared radiant heaters or also convectors. Once you have adjusted the desired target temperature, the thermostat as your personal temperature manager always reliably keeps the room temperature within the desired temperature range. Radio thermostats like the BN35 are furthermore provided with a variety of comfort functions by means of which the temperature control can be perfectly adapted to your rhythm of life and work. A radio thermostat with a handheld transmitter and several radio-controlled sockets even makes it possible to centrally control several mobile heating devices and air conditioners in different rooms.

To sum things up: A socket thermostat as a function of the preselected room temperature value takes over the fully automated switch-on and switch-off of the connected heating or cooling devices and in this way provides for a constant feel-good climate while, at the same time, reducing the energy consumption.

Possible use

HOW DOES A SOCKET THERMOSTAT WORK?

A room thermostat is an intelligent temperature controller which regulates the room temperature fully automatically so as to comply with your requirements and settings. For this purpose, the socket thermostat is simply plugged into a free socket in the room and the power cable of the electric heating or cooling unit is connected to the room thermostat. After setting the desired target temperature, the integrated thermal sensor continuously measures the air temperature and switches the device connected on or off, as required, to obtain the desired room temperature.

FOR HEATING OR COOLING: OPTIMALLY REGULATED TEMPERATURES

Two different operating modes enable the use of both heaters and air conditioners. A connected heater is always switched on when the actual temperature is below the target temperature, and conversely, an air conditioner is used only if the air temperature measured is on the verge of exceeding the target temperature. In the case of digital room thermostats like the BN30, the target temperature can be preset in practical increments of 1 degree C (or Fahrenheit) in the range of 5 °C to 30 °C, and in the case of the radio thermostat BN35 even in the range of 0 °C to 70 °C.

PERFECTLY PLANNED COMFORT TEMPERATURES

This thermostat-controlled control of radio thermostats like the BN35 is complemented by an individually programmable timer switch with up to 6 switching times.

WHAT TYPES OF ROOM THERMOSTATS ARE THERE?

For the control of mobile heating and cooling devices, basically two types of room thermostats are suitable. Our range of room thermostats comprises simple socket thermostats for the control of individual devices and multifunctional radio thermostats by means of which up to 100 radio sockets and devices connected to them can be controlled simultaneously in a time-controlled fashion.

SOCKET THERMOSTAT WITH TEMPERATURE SENSOR

A digital socket thermostat like the socket thermostat BN30 is characterized by its simple handling and programming. When the desired target temperature has been set, the thermal sensor installed in the thermostat head measures the actual value of the room temperature and regulates the heating device or air conditioner connected according to the desired target value.

Characteristics of the digital socket thermostat BN30:

  • Suited for heating and cooling control
  • Operating range from 5 °C to 30 °C
  • LCD display with temperature indication
  • Simple handling and programming
  • Permanent shutdown of the consumer
  • Favourable purchase costs

RADIO THERMOSTAT WITH ONE TRANSMITTER AND SEVERAL RECEIVERS

For the convenient control of several mobile devices with plannable switching times, we recommend the use of a multifunctional device like the radio thermostat BN35. The radio thermostat comprises a radio-controlled socket (receiver) and a radio handheld transmitter (transmitter). The radio thermostat in the handheld transmitter always measures the current room temperature of its surroundings. With the radio thermostat BN35, up to 100 switchable and adjustable radio-controlled sockets can be controlled simultaneously with only one transmitter over a range of up to 20 metres.

Characteristics of the digital radio thermostat BN35:

  • Suited for heating and cooling control
  • Convenient timer function
  • Separate handheld transmitter and receiver
  • Operating range from 0 °C to 70 °C
  • LCD display with temperature indication
  • 2-pin safe switching
  • Extensive programming options
  • Switches up to 100 radio-controlled sockets in parallel
  • Permanent shutdown of the consumer
  • Remote operation
  • Automatic frost protection system

WHICH THERMOSTAT IS SUITED BEST FOR WHICH APPLICATION

Start thinking about for which applications you will most likely be using the room thermostat before you purchase one. Furthermore, make sure that the heating or cooling device to be controlled is suitable for the use with an external room thermostat.

The general rule is: Electrical devices that do not automatically restart after a power interruption, are not suited for the use with an external room thermostat!

The following table provides you with an overview of the various fields of application and the correspondingly suitable room thermostats.
