Water separation and pre-filtration for low-pressure insulation drying
Professional water separators protect insulation drying systems by removing free water and coarse particles from the extracted process air before it reaches the insulation dryer. The TROTEC WA 4i MultiQube combines water separation, integrated pre-filtration and practical hose connections in a compact system component for water damage restoration.
Water separators are a key component in low-pressure insulation drying
During low-pressure insulation drying, humid air is extracted directly from the affected insulation layer. Depending on the damage, this process air can carry liquid water, dirt and other particles towards the drying equipment.
A water separator is installed in the extraction system to remove free water and provide initial filtration before the process air reaches the insulation dryer and any subsequent filtration stages.
Free water should be separated before it reaches the insulation dryer
Liquid water entering an insulation dryer can damage the equipment. Effective separation therefore begins by removing free water from the air-and-water mixture before the airflow continues through the drying system.
The WA 4i directs separated water into its collecting tank while the process air continues through the integrated filtration stages. This protects downstream equipment and keeps water separation within the drying setup.
Several separation stages prepare the process air for further filtration
The WA 4i combines mechanical water separation with integrated pre-filtration. A baffle plate separates free water from the incoming air-and-water mixture, while additional filtration stages capture particles carried by the process air.
A stainless-steel demister and microfilter system extend this separation process before the air is passed on to the remaining components of the insulation drying system.
Integrated microfiltration reduces the need for separate pre-filter housings
The WA 4i incorporates a replaceable microfilter cartridge with three filter elements directly into the unit. This allows the required pre-filtration stages to be integrated into the water separator instead of using additional external microfilter housings.
The cartridge is installed in the defined airflow direction and is designed for low resistance within the MultiQube drying system.
Pre-filtration and HEPA filtration perform different tasks
The integrated microfilter system provides pre-filtration but does not replace a dedicated HEPA filter where higher-level process-air filtration is required. The appropriate filtration chain depends on the contamination risk and the requirements of the restoration project.
A compatible HEPA stage can therefore be added to the system when the application requires additional filtration of the extracted process air.
Hose connections integrate the separator into the drying system
The WA 4i provides three 38 mm connections for the air transport hoses used in MultiQube insulation drying setups. This allows several extraction zones to be connected to a central separator as part of the low-pressure drying system.
Hose routing, connection diameter and the resistance created by filters and other components all influence the available process airflow and should be considered when configuring the complete installation.
Overflow protection and residual-water drainage support professional operation
The water separator needs to manage the liquid collected during the extraction process without allowing it to reach downstream equipment. The WA 4i therefore combines an overflow sensor with automatic shut-off functionality and a residual-water drainage function.
These features support practical handling on restoration sites while simplifying emptying and preparation of the unit between drying applications.
TTKwic provides a central discharge point for compatible dehumidifiers
In addition to separating water from the process airflow, the WA 4i incorporates two TTKwic quick couplings. Compatible TROTEC dehumidifiers equipped with condensate pumps can connect their condensate discharge hoses to the water separator.
This allows the condensate from up to two compatible dehumidifiers to share the central discharge route of the WA 4i, reducing the number of separate drainage hoses required across the drying site.
Configure the water separator around the complete insulation drying system
- use a water separator where the low-pressure process can extract free water and particles from the insulation layer;
- match the separator to the airflow and connection requirements of the insulation dryer;
- include hose diameter, hose length and filter resistance when planning the process airflow;
- select the required filtration stages according to the contamination risk of the project;
- use compatible HEPA filtration where additional process-air filtration is required;
- plan the water discharge route and monitor the separator during operation;
- match filter cartridges, mats, hoses and other components to the exact water separator and drying system.
