Industrial adsorption dehumidifiers for low temperatures and low dew points

Industrial adsorption dehumidifiers provide dry air for applications where low temperatures, low target humidity or low dew points make conventional condensation drying less suitable. TROTEC professional systems combine desiccant rotor technology with controlled process and regeneration airflows for production, storage, logistics and technical drying processes.

Adsorption technology extends drying into demanding operating conditions

Industrial adsorption dehumidifiers remove water vapour directly from the air using a hygroscopic desiccant rotor. Unlike condensation dehumidifiers, they do not rely on cooling the process air below its dew point to separate liquid water.

This makes adsorption technology particularly relevant at low temperatures, at low relative humidity and in processes where a low dew point is required. The permissible operating conditions and achievable drying level depend on the selected system and its configuration.

A continuously regenerated desiccant rotor produces dry air

The process air passes through a drying sector of the rotating desiccant wheel, where moisture is bound by the sorption material. The conditioned air then leaves the dehumidifier as dry air and can be supplied directly to the room, storage area or process.

A separate heated regeneration airflow removes the accumulated moisture from the rotor. This moisture is discharged from the system with the humid regeneration air, allowing the rotor to operate continuously.

Dry-air volume and available pressure are key sizing parameters

Professional adsorption drying is not selected by dehumidification capacity alone. Dry-air volume determines how much conditioned air can be supplied, while available static pressure becomes important when hoses, ducts, filters or other system components create resistance.

The required combination depends on room volume, leakage, moisture load, target humidity and the way the dry air needs to be distributed. Process applications can therefore require a different configuration from simple recirculation drying in an enclosed room.

Low-temperature performance supports cold storage and unheated environments

Adsorption dehumidifiers can continue to remove moisture at temperatures where condensation technology becomes increasingly limited. Selected professional TTR systems are designed for operation in sub-zero ambient conditions, making the technology suitable for applications such as cold storage, unheated facilities and technical low-temperature processes.

The permitted intake and ambient temperature ranges vary between models and should be included in the system specification together with the required humidity or dew point.

Different airflow concepts provide different levels of process control

TROTEC adsorption systems use different airflow and control concepts according to the model and performance class. Compact professional units can provide adjustable dry-air volume, while selected systems use separate fans for the process and regeneration air circuits.

Independent airflow control provides additional flexibility where the required dry-air volume, moisture content and pressure conditions need to be matched more closely to a specific industrial process.

Duct connections allow dry air to reach the required area

Professional adsorption dehumidifiers can be integrated into drying systems using suitable hoses or ductwork. Dry air can therefore be directed to a defined room, machine, storage zone or process instead of relying only on free air circulation around the appliance.

The humid regeneration air also needs an appropriate discharge route. Air routing, duct diameter, pressure losses and installation layout should therefore be considered together when planning the system.

Regeneration heating is part of the adsorption drying process

The desiccant rotor must be regenerated continuously during operation. Professional adsorption dehumidifiers therefore use heated regeneration air to release the moisture stored in the sorption material and carry it out of the system.

Electrical demand depends on the model, airflow settings, inlet conditions and regeneration concept. Selected TROTEC systems incorporate heat recovery and self-regulating regeneration heating to optimise the drying process within their specified operating range.

External controls and system accessories support process integration

Professional humidity control often requires integration with other equipment. Depending on the model, TROTEC adsorption dehumidifiers can be combined with external hygrostats, switching devices, air filters, hoses and duct connections.

These components allow the drying system to be adapted to the required control strategy and air-routing concept. Accessory compatibility and connection dimensions should always be matched to the exact dehumidifier model.

Choose the adsorption dehumidifier around the required dry-air conditions

  • define the typical intake and ambient temperature of the application;
  • determine the required relative humidity or target dew point;
  • calculate the moisture load and required dry-air volume;
  • include available static pressure when hoses, ducts or filters are used;
  • plan the supply route for dry air and the discharge route for humid regeneration air;
  • confirm the electrical supply required for the dehumidifier and regeneration heating;
  • select the airflow and control concept according to the process requirements;
  • match filters, hoses, controls and other accessories to the exact model and connection dimensions.
